Figure "a" shows a step, starting with a black
dot, ending with a slanting line. This step
starts at the "black dot" and continues to the
straight line at an angle. Where the straight
line "starts" denotes where the heel is placed.
The end of the straight line denotes the toe.
Between the heel and the toe, refers to the
ankle. (See Wendy Hilton, p. 100). Note,
a dot at the end of the angular straight line
denotes shifting weight onto the toe (not shown
here).Figure "b" shows the right foot forward
step (along the path), followed by the left
foot forward. Figure "c" shows backward steps
(note the direction of the male performer):
first the right foot, then the left foot. Figure
"d" (note the direction of the male dancer)
shows side steps, first the right foot, then the
left foot.
